The New England fishing industry is no stranger to battling the elements, but climate and environmental change threatening the viability of commercial fish stocks just compounds its challenges.
On April 7 at MBL, journalists Duy Linh Tu (Columbia Journalism School) and Barbara Moran (WBUR) presented a special screening of their short film “Troubled Waters” on this topic, followed by a panel discussion on preserving the East Coast fisheries in a changing and threatened environment.
Mirta Teichberg, associate scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory, stars in the film, along with Glen Gawarkiewicz, senior scientist, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; Bill Amaru, New England fisherman; and Cate O’Keefe, executive director, New England Fisheries Management Council. The well-attended event was produced with support by WBUR and the Pulitzer Center’s StoryReach U.S. Fellowship.
